How this calculator works

Course scores. TASC's 2025 course scaling information gives the range of course scores for each award in every Level 3 and 4 course. If you enter an award we use the middle of its range; if you know your course score we use it directly.
TE Score. Following TASC's TE Score rules, we add your best five course scores (four at minimum) and round down to one decimal.
ATAR. We convert the TE Score with TASC's 2025 TE Score to ATAR conversion report, interpolating between whole TE Scores.

What this calculator is not

This is an estimator. Awards cover wide ranges of course scores, HAP and UCP units are not modelled, and 2026 scaling and conversion will differ. For your official ATAR, refer to TASC.

Common questions

How is the Tasmanian ATAR calculated?: Your TE Score adds your best course scores from TASC Level 3 and 4 courses over two calendar years: courses worth 60 to 75 points, at 15 points per course, so four or five courses. From 2025 none of them has to come from your final year. The TE Score is rounded down to one decimal place and converted to an ATAR by ranking it against other students that year.
What TE Score do I need for a given ATAR?: In TASC's 2025 conversion report a TE Score of 60 gave an ATAR of 74.85, 80 gave 86.60, 90 gave 91.40, 100 gave 95.35 and 110 gave 98.50. The conversion changes every year.
How do awards turn into course scores?: TASC scales each course, and each award covers a range of course scores. In 2025, for example, an HA in Chemistry was worth 17.2 to 22.4 and an EA 22.9 to 24.2; an HA in English was worth 17.3 to 20.3. If you only know your award, the calculator uses the middle of the range and shows the lowest and highest ATAR the range allows.
Do HAP and UCP university units count?: They can. UTAS High Achiever Program units and eligible University Connections Program units count at 8 or 15 points, with 8-point units weighted by 8/15. This calculator only handles Level 3 and 4 TASC courses.
Is this calculator official?: No. It uses TASC's published 2025 course scaling ranges and TE Score to ATAR table. For your official ATAR, refer to TASC and the University of Tasmania.
