What ExamExplained is

ExamExplained is a website of study notes that follows each course's official syllabus. For every syllabus point it covers there is a page that answers it directly, then explains it, with worked examples and common mistakes where they help. Around those pages sit topic guides, self-marking quizzes and flashcards, past paper walkthroughs and mock exams shaped like the real papers, and studies of prescribed English texts.

It is free to read, with no paywall, no sign-up and no email gate. Every page is pre-built and is the same for every visitor. There is no chatbot and no AI running when you open a page. We don't write essays or answers to your graded school assessments.

Which curricula it covers

• HSC: Higher School Certificate (NSW, set by NESA)
• VCE: Victorian Certificate of Education (VIC, set by VCAA)
• QCE: Queensland Certificate of Education (QLD, set by QCAA)
• SACE: South Australian Certificate of Education (SA, set by SACE Board)
• WACE: Western Australian Certificate of Education (WA, set by SCSA)
• TCE: Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TAS, set by TASC)

Coverage differs by subject: some subjects have a page for every syllabus point, others are still being filled in. Each subject page shows what is there.

How pages are made

1. Start from the official documents. Each page is written against the syllabus or study design published by the curriculum authority (NESA, VCAA, QCAA, SACE Board, SCSA and TASC), and, where they are public, past papers and marking guidelines.
2. Draft with AI tools. AI models draft the page in a fixed format: the direct answer first, then the explanation, worked examples and common mistakes. See how ExamExplained is built for the models and process.
3. Check automatically before publishing. Every content file goes through automated validators before release, and a malformed file fails the site build. The checks include:
   • required fields and structure for every page type, such as curriculum, subject, module, syllabus point, summary and last-updated date;
   • minimum length, no duplicated pages, no placeholder syllabus references, and a quick-answer block on every syllabus-point page;
   • well-formed callout blocks, quizzes paired with their topic guide, and maths written so it renders;
   • question-and-answer pairs pulled from a page, which must quote it word for word;
   • no quoted passages from copyrighted set texts, and full citations for quotes from public-domain texts;
   • on original trial papers, marks that add up, balanced multiple-choice answer positions and model essays that don't repeat one template;
   • reviewer credits that must point to a real, listed reviewer (see below).
4. Publish with a date. Each page shows when it was last updated. Fixes replace the page at the same URL with a new date.

Automated checks catch structural problems. They cannot confirm that every fact is right. Treat any specific date, statistic, scaling figure or syllabus code as a starting point, and check NESA, VCAA, QCAA, SACE Board, SCSA and TASC when it matters for your mark.

Review status

No page on ExamExplained has yet been reviewed by a named teacher or examiner, and every study page says so in its "About this page" box.

We are setting up a reviewer program. When a teacher or examiner checks a page, that page will name them, give their credentials and the date of the review, and link to their profile on the reviewers page. We don't credit ExamExplained itself, a process or an AI tool as a reviewer.

How sources are cited

• Each study page states the curriculum, subject, module and syllabus point it covers, so you can match it to the official syllabus.
• Many pages end with a "Sources & how we know this" list naming the documents used, with publisher, year and a link to the original.
• Past paper pages link to the official papers on the authority's website. We don't host copies.

Found a mistake?

Tell us through the question form at /get-help. Include the page address and what looks wrong. We correct the page at the same URL and update its last-updated date.

Independence and affiliation

ExamExplained is independent of the curriculum authorities. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by NESA, VCAA, QCAA, SACE Board, SCSA and TASC. Syllabus wording is theirs; the notes are ours. Exam-board and qualification names are trademarks of their owners.

ExamExplained is affiliated with Better Tuition Academy (BTA), a tutoring business, and helps promote it. The study library itself is free to read and never requires contacting anyone.

Privacy

Reading the site needs no account. Your study state (bookmarks, planner, quiz attempts) lives in your browser's localStorage and stays on your device. Anonymous crash reports go to Sentry, cookieless page-view counts to Vercel Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics, page views and click events to PostHog (EU Cloud), and anything you send through /get-help to a private database so a person can reply.
