What student life looks like

UTAS runs four main physical sites. The Sandy Bay campus, four kilometres south of the Hobart CBD on the Derwent River, has been the historic main site, with a planned move of most teaching into the Hobart CBD across the late 2020s. The Inveresk campus in Launceston, on a re-purposed railyard site, houses business, health, education and creative arts. The Cradle Coast campus at Burnie houses nursing, education and aquaculture, and the Hothouse innovation precinct sits at Newnham. UTAS hosts the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies at Salamanca Quay, the largest marine and Antarctic research hub in the southern hemisphere. Accommodation runs through Christ College, John Fisher College, Jane Franklin Hall (Sandy Bay) and Inveresk Apartments. The Tasmania University Union runs around 60 clubs. Hobart's cool climate, Mount Wellington and dark skies are a real part of student life, with the MONA museum a 30-minute ferry away and weekend hiking culture central to many students. The brand is small-cohort teaching, marine and Antarctic research and a uniquely Tasmanian island setting.
