What student life looks like
The main campus at Camperdown and Darlington sits a short walk from Newtown and a few train stops from Central Station. The sandstone quadrangle, Fisher Library and the surrounding precinct give Sydney one of the densest student villages in the country, with most undergraduate teaching concentrated within walking distance. Accommodation breaks into three groups: the historic residential colleges (Wesley, St Andrew's, St Paul's, St John's, Women's, Sancta Sophia, Mandelbaum), the university residences (Queen Mary, Abercrombie, International House, Regiment) and a very large commuter cohort renting through the Inner West along the T1, T2 and T3 rail lines. The University of Sydney Union runs more than 200 clubs and societies, with semester one Welcome Fest the largest recruitment fair on any Australian campus. Most students travel by train via Redfern or Central; bus access from the Eastern Suburbs is heavy at peak times and the M30 and 422 routes are part of daily life. The semester rhythm runs late February to early June for semester one and late July to mid-November for semester two, with a hectic intervarsity sports calendar and a strong revues and performing arts scene through the year.
