Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

at UNSW Sydney, New South Wales.

A four-year honours engineering degree at UNSW Kensington, accredited by Engineers Australia. The rank shown is for the Flexible First Year entry; individual specialisations publish their own ranks. Assumed knowledge is Mathematics Extension 1 and Physics (Chemistry for chemical and bioinformatics streams).

Lowest selection rank

The lowest selection rank (LSR) is the lowest ATAR plus adjustment factors (equity, subject and regional bonuses) that received an offer to the UNSW Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) for that intake. Universities publish it in their admissions student profiles. Only intakes with a published figure are listed.

Specialisations include aerospace, bioinformatics, chemical, chemical product, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, mechanical, mechanical and manufacturing, mining, photovoltaics and solar energy, quantum, renewable energy, robotics and mechatronics, software, surveying and telecommunications engineering. Flexible First Year lets students start with common foundations before choosing a specialisation. All students complete at least 60 working days of approved Engineering Professional Practice.

Placement and industry experience

Every accredited UNSW engineering program requires at least 60 working days of approved Engineering Professional Practice, usually industry work experience related to the student's specialisation.

Career outcomes

Is this the right degree for you?

You probably thrive here if

  • Students who excelled in Year 12 maths (typically Extension 1 or Extension 2) and physics
  • Those who enjoy building and problem solving in teams
  • People aiming for chartered engineering status and a long technical career
  • Students happy to do industry placement during summers
  • Those willing to manage demanding workloads across four years

It is probably not for you if

  • Students wanting a three-year degree with light maths
  • Those who dislike laboratory and design-studio work
  • Anyone uncomfortable with high contact hours (typically 22 to 28 per week)
