What student life looks like

The Kensington campus sits between Randwick Racecourse, Centennial Park and the eastern suburbs beach corridor, with the upper campus Mathews Quad and library precinct at the centre. A second campus at Paddington hosts the Art and Design school, and the Botany Street precinct holds biomedical research. UNSW moved to a trimester calendar branded UNSW3+ in 2019, with three ten-week terms a year plus a flexible summer term, so the rhythm of the year is more compressed than the traditional Australian semester pattern. Accommodation runs through the on-campus colleges and residences (New College, Shalom College, International House, Goldstein, Basser, Philip Baxter, Fig Tree Hall, UNSW Hall) and a large commuter cohort in Kingsford, Kensington, Maroubra and along the L2/L3 light rail back to the CBD. Arc UNSW runs more than 300 clubs and the student precinct is dense, with the Roundhouse a long-running campus venue. The light rail opened in 2019 and is the main link to Central, supplemented by the 891 and 400 bus network. Beach culture is real: Coogee is a 15-minute walk and Maroubra a short bus.

The year at a glance

UNSW runs the UNSW3+ trimester calendar. Term one starts in mid- February and ends in early May, term two runs early June to late August, and term three runs mid-September to early December. Each term has a flexibility week and a final exam period. A shorter summer term runs January to February for catch-up and acceleration. Results release follows about three weeks after each term's exams. Orientation week (O-Week) precedes term one.
