What student life looks like
The City campus stretches along Swanston, La Trobe and Bowen Streets at the northern end of the Melbourne CBD, fronting onto the State Library forecourt and the Storey Hall heritage building. The Design Hub, SAB and Building 80 anchor the design and engineering precincts respectively. RMIT also runs Brunswick (textiles, fashion, communication) and Bundoora (biosciences, health, manufacturing) campuses in northern Melbourne, plus full international campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. As a dual- sector institution, RMIT teaches higher-education degrees alongside TAFE qualifications, and many students pathway from a diploma into a bachelor. RMIT has no on-campus residential village to speak of and a small RMIT Village student housing site at Bundoora; most undergraduates commute from across Melbourne and along the Mernda, Hurstbridge and Upfield train lines. The RMIT Student Union runs more than 100 clubs and the campus is woven into central Melbourne, with food, bars and cultural venues a five-minute walk in any direction. Industry connection is the brand: most courses include a capstone industry project, a Work Integrated Learning placement or both.
