What you will study

First year builds the scientific base for pharmacy: human anatomy and physiology, chemistry, cell biology and an introduction to pharmacy practice and the role of the pharmacist. Early practical and dispensing skills are introduced in QUT's teaching laboratories at Gardens Point. Second and third years are the pharmaceutical-science core: pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics and drug formulation, pathophysiology and therapeutics. You learn how medicines work in the body and how to manage them safely, with growing emphasis on patient counselling, professional ethics and supervised placements in community and hospital pharmacy. Fourth year is the honours year, integrating advanced therapeutics, clinical pharmacy and a research project or thesis with extended professional placements across southeast Queensland hospital and community pharmacies. QUT's program embeds research in the final year, reflecting its research-rich, real-world focus.
