What you will study
First year is studio-led at the Gardens Point campus. You learn architectural representation and drawing, design fundamentals, the history and theory of architecture, and digital tools including CAD and 3D modelling. Studio projects start small, with a strong emphasis on subtropical and Queensland climate-responsive design from the outset. Second year scales up to building-sized projects and introduces building technology, structures, environmental systems and construction. Studio is the spine of each semester, with weekly desk critiques and end-of-semester reviews where you pin up drawings and models for staff and visiting practitioners. Third year tackles complex urban and multi-use projects, advanced building technology, professional practice and a major design project that becomes the foundation of your portfolio. The bachelor is the first half of the registration pathway: graduates continue to the two-year Master of Architecture, then complete supervised practical experience to register with the Board of Architects of Queensland.

After graduation
This bachelor is not a stand-alone qualification to practise as an architect. The accredited pathway is Bachelor of Design (Architectural Studies) plus the two-year Master of Architecture plus logged practical experience and the Architectural Practice Examination, leading to registration with the Board of Architects of Queensland. Some graduates instead move into related fields such as urban design, interior architecture, building design, property development or sustainability consulting.
