Bachelor of Biomedicine

at The University of Melbourne, Victoria.

The University of Melbourne's undergraduate medical science degree is the three-year Bachelor of Biomedicine at Parkville, a common pathway to its graduate Doctor of Medicine and health degrees. VCE prerequisites are study scores of at least 25 in English other than EAL (or 30 in EAL), 25 in Chemistry and 25 in Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics.

Lowest selection rank

The lowest selection rank (LSR) is the lowest ATAR plus adjustment factors (equity, subject and regional bonuses) that received an offer to the Melbourne Bachelor of Biomedicine for that intake. Universities publish it in their admissions student profiles. Only intakes with a published figure are listed.

After graduation

The degree prepares graduates for professional-entry health courses such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, physiotherapy, nursing and public health, or for research through Honours and a PhD.

Is this the right degree for you?

You probably thrive here if

  • Students who liked biology and chemistry in VCE
  • Patient lab workers who follow protocols carefully
  • Students targeting graduate medicine or dentistry
  • Readers comfortable with scientific journals
  • Self-starters who pursue summer research scholarships

It is probably not for you if

  • Students unsure about lab-based work
  • Those who dislike final exams or memorisation-heavy subjects
  • People wanting direct registration to practise on graduation
  • Students who prefer humanities-style essay work
