What you will study
First year introduces foundational education courses (child development and learning, Indigenous education, classroom diversity and inclusion) plus discipline courses in literacy, numeracy, science and the arts as you will teach them. You complete an introductory school observation block. Teaching is mainly at the Mount Gravatt, Logan and Gold Coast campuses. Second and third years build subject-by-subject pedagogy: how to teach English, mathematics, HASS, science, the arts and health and physical education, plus wellbeing and behaviour management. Each course pair feeds into supervised placement blocks in Queensland primary schools, including high-need and regional settings. By the end of third year you have completed a substantial share of the required practicum. Final year is the longest placement, the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) and the final Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA). Supervised practice totals at least 80 days across the degree as required by AITSL. On graduation you are eligible to register with the Queensland College of Teachers and begin teaching.
