What you will study
First year is a broad studio-based foundation: drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, digital media and contemporary art theory. You also begin a studio diary documenting process and ideas. Second year you choose a primary studio specialisation (often painting, sculpture, photography, sound or moving image, ceramics, printmaking or expanded forms) plus a secondary studio. Group critiques become weekly and contemporary art theory subjects deepen. Federation's fine art studios at the relevant campus have darkrooms, print workshops, sculpture forges and dedicated studio space. Third year is capstone year: a major body of work for the graduate show, a written research-driven artist statement and advanced theory electives. The graduate show is the key recruitment moment for galleries, residencies and Honours applications.
