What student life looks like
Federation University traces its history back to the 1870 School of Mines Ballarat and runs four main campuses. Mount Helen, the largest site, is set in 110 hectares of bushland 10 kilometres south of central Ballarat, with the Albert Coates Centre and Federation Sport precinct anchoring the campus. SMB (the SMB heritage precinct in central Ballarat) houses TAFE and a Tech School. Berwick, in Melbourne's south-east, houses business, IT and nursing for the Casey-Cardinia region. Gippsland (Churchill) houses engineering, nursing and the strong Latrobe Valley applied research programme. Brisbane is a smaller postgraduate and international student campus. As a dual-sector institution, FedUni offers TAFE qualifications alongside higher education on the same site, with a strong cert-to-bachelor pathway through Federation TAFE. Accommodation runs through residential village at Mount Helen, plus partner accommodation in Ballarat and Gippsland. The FedUni Student Senate runs around 30 clubs across campuses. The brand is regional Victoria access, dual-sector pathways and applied industry teaching in mining heritage, engineering, gaming and nursing.
