What you will learn

The BSB50620 covers core marketing and communication operations for coordinator and specialist roles. Core units include developing marketing strategies, undertaking marketing activities, developing and managing digital marketing strategies, producing marketing communication content, managing market research, analysing consumer behaviour, building brand identity, and conducting communications campaigns. Most providers run electives covering search engine optimisation, paid search and social advertising, email marketing automation, content production, public relations and customer experience design. You study consumer protection under the Australian Consumer Law and the Privacy Act 1988.

How the course runs

Most students study online over 12 months on a self-paced model, or full-time on campus over 6 to 12 months. Around 500 to 700 hours of formal training, with theory and applied campaign work split roughly 60/40. Many students complete capstone campaign projects with real or simulated clients. No mandatory work placement. Many students study while working in marketing coordinator, copywriting or social media roles.

Workplace and placement

No mandatory work placement. Most students work concurrently in marketing coordinator, social media manager, content creator or junior account manager roles. Wages follow the Clerks - Private Sector Award or above-award rates in agency and in-house teams. Many students set up freelance side hustles offering social and content services to small businesses during the course.

After you finish

After the Diploma you can pursue the Advanced Diploma of Marketing and Communication (BSB60520) or progress to a Bachelor of Marketing, Bachelor of Communication or Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at RMIT, Edith Cowan, La Trobe, Swinburne or Charles Sturt with significant credit. Industry certifications (Google Ads, Meta Blueprint, HubSpot Inbound Marketing) strongly complement the qualification for in-demand digital roles.
