When to start QCE past papers (For Year 12 in 2027)

What is the revised syllabus caveat?

QCAA introduced revised General syllabuses with Units 1 and 2 in 2025, and says 2026 is the first time external assessments are based on them. For the 2027 cohort, that means:

How to use marking guides and subject reports

  1. Mark honestly with the official guide, not from memory of what you meant.
  2. Find where the marks sit. In maths and science, note which steps earn marks. In humanities, note what distinguishes the top-scoring responses.
  3. Log every lost mark by type (content gap, misread question, working not shown, time) on the mistakes page of your study system. See a summer study system before Year 12.
  4. Read the subject report for that year and check whether your errors are the common ones.
  5. Re-test that question type a few days later, with flashcards or a mock exam if the topic keeps catching you.
Exam tip

For extended responses, write a plan first, then compare it with the marking guide's criteria before writing it out in full. It's faster than writing whole practice essays, and you can do more of them.
