The four Victorian selective entry high schools compared
Nossal in Berwick, Suzanne Cory in Werribee, Mac.Robertson Girls' in Melbourne and Melbourne High in South Yarra. Official facts only: location, type and how entry works.
Last checked against the official sources.
There are four schools: Nossal High School (co-educational, Berwick), Suzanne Cory High School (co-educational, Werribee), The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School (girls, Melbourne) and Melbourne High School (boys, South Yarra). All use the same centralised process.
The table below lists the schools with the details the Department publishes. We have deliberately not added rankings, results or outcome claims. The Department does not publish those as part of selective entry, and they would not tell you which school suits your child.
Things to weigh as a family
- Type of school. Two are co-educational, one is for girls and one is for boys.
- Travel. Think about the daily trip from home, including public transport. Venue for the exam is separate and allocated by address.
- Preferences. You can list up to three, in order, and your child is offered only the highest one they qualify for. See how selection works.
- School information. Each school publishes its own information about programs and open days. Use those pages for anything beyond the facts here.
The Department's page gives only the total of about 1,000 places across the four schools. Some schools state their own Year 9 intake on their enrolment pages, so check each school's website.
