What student life looks like

The UTS campus is one of the most CBD-integrated in Australia, bracketed by Central Station, the Goods Line, Darling Harbour and the Chau Chak Wing Building, the Frank Gehry-designed business school that is now a Sydney landmark. The campus is vertical rather than parklike, with Building 1 (Tower) the long-running central thread and the Science and Engineering buildings stretched along Thomas and Jones Streets. UTS has almost no on-campus residential population by Go8 standards; most students live across the inner west, the Anzac and Glebe areas, Ultimo, Surry Hills, Redfern and the Green Square corridor, and travel by train, bicycle or the L2 and L3 light rail. UTS Housing offers four inner-city residences (Yura Mudang, Geegal, Bulga Ngurra, Mark Lemcke). The Activate UTS student union runs around 140 clubs. The campus rhythm follows a standard two-semester pattern with larger first-year cohorts in engineering, IT, business and communication. Industry partnerships and capstone projects are central to most degrees, often delivered as a sandwich placement or industry-linked final-year project.
