What you will study

First year introduces the breadth of psychology: introduction to psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology, the biological basis of behaviour, and research methods and statistics. UniSQ delivers psychology on campus at Toowoomba, Springfield and Ipswich and fully online, with one of Australia's larger external psychology cohorts, so many students complete the accredited sequence remotely. Second year deepens the core APAC content areas: cognition and learning, perception, personality and individual differences, abnormal psychology and intermediate research methods and statistics. Statistical analysis and the design of psychological studies become central. Third year covers advanced topics such as psychological assessment, neuropsychology, applied and health psychology, and a research methods or empirical project. Completing the accredited three-year sequence makes you eligible to apply for a fourth-year Honours or Graduate Diploma, the next step on the path to registration as a psychologist.

After graduation

The three-year degree alone does not lead to registration as a psychologist. Most graduates apply for an accredited fourth year (Honours or Graduate Diploma of Psychology), then a Master of Psychology or the 5+1 internship pathway to register with AHPRA. Many work in mental-health support, case management, human resources, research or market research with the three-year degree, often studying the later stages online while working in regional Queensland.

Is this the right degree for you?

You probably thrive here if

  • Students curious about behaviour, the mind and mental health
  • People comfortable with statistics and research design
  • Strong writers who can review and synthesise evidence
  • Students prepared for a long postgraduate pathway to registration
  • Online learners balancing study with work or caring duties

It is probably not for you if

  • Students who dislike statistics and research methods
  • Those wanting to practise or counsel clients immediately after three years
  • People who prefer hands-on or studio-based learning
  • Students unwilling to commit to four or more additional years
