What you will study
First year at the University of Adelaide introduces educational psychology and child development, foundations of teaching and learning, the Australian Curriculum, and introductory courses in literacy and numeracy teaching. You begin building professional knowledge and complete an early observation placement in a primary school. Middle years cover curriculum and pedagogy across the primary learning areas (English, mathematics, science, humanities, the arts, health and physical education), along with inclusive education, classroom management and assessment. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education and digital technologies are embedded, and supervised practicum placements increase in length and responsibility. Final year focuses on advanced pedagogy, evidence-informed practice and a sustained professional experience block where you take on near-full teaching loads under supervision. To meet AITSL and teacher-registration requirements you complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and the mandated professional-experience days. Graduates apply for registration with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia.
