OLNA windows and attempts: the 2026 Term 4 and 2027 windows
Schools schedule students into OLNA windows through the year, with up to six opportunities before the end of Year 12. The windows below are from SCSA's published schedule; check SCSA for the current windows.
Last checked against the official sources.
Students can have up to six opportunities before the end of Year 12, and the school does the scheduling. The Department's page and SCSA's schedule describe the windows differently, so check SCSA for the current windows.
Attempts
The WA Department of Education's OLNA page says the assessment runs in March and September, so students who need a component are usually scheduled twice a year by their school. That gives up to six opportunities before the end of Year 12. Please check SCSA for the current rules.
A student who has passed a component does not sit it again.
Windows
The Department's OLNA page says the assessment runs each year in March and September. SCSA's own schedule lists more windows across the year, in Terms 1 to 4. Writing is sat in the first two days of each window, and reading and numeracy run across the window. The dates below are the ones in SCSA's schedule. Check SCSA for the current windows.
Do not plan around a single date from this page. Check the SCSA site and ask your school which window your child is in.
Some windows are open to particular year levels only. SCSA's schedule lists Term 1 for Years 11 and 12, Terms 2 and 3 for Years 10, 11 and 12, and Term 4 for Years 9 and 10. The 2026 Term 4 window is still ahead: writing on 26 and 27 October and reading and numeracy from 26 October to 6 November 2026. A Year 9 student who sits in Term 4 has it count as their first sitting as a Year 10 student.
Who decides which window
Schools decide when each student sits. A parent usually cannot book a window. If you have a question about timing, ask the school's OLNA coordinator.
If a result is not what you hoped
Another opportunity usually follows in a later window. Ask the school what support is on offer, and look at the reading, writing and numeracy pages.
Details come from the Department's page and SCSA's published schedule. Confirm everything with SCSA and your school.
