NAPLAN results season, July 2027: what to expect

In 2026, individual NAPLAN reports were listed from the start of Term 3. For 2027 the same pattern is expected, but no dates are published. Reports come through your child's school, and timing varies by state and territory.

Last checked against the official sources.

No 2027 results dates are published yet. In 2026 individual reports were listed from the start of Term 3, and 2027 is expected to be similar. The report comes from your school, and timing varies by state and territory.

What happened in 2026

ACARA's key dates for 2026 listed preliminary reports to schools in April, final summary reports from mid-June and individual student reports from the start of Term 3. The national results were released on 5 August 2026. ACARA's last four national releases were Wednesdays between 30 July and 23 August, so we expect national results in August 2027.

For 2027, ACARA has not published a results timeline. The 2027 test window is 10 to 22 March, and we expect the results to follow the 2026 pattern. That is an expectation only. See 2027 dates.

Why July is the likely time to watch

Term 3 starts in July in most places, so July is when many families may first see a report. But state and territory authorities provide reports to schools, and ACARA says timing may vary between states and territories. Your school may send it home on paper, by email or through a parent portal.

How to read the report

Your child's report shows a result in each area against four proficiency levels. Our page on how to read the report walks through it, and proficiency levels explains each level.

A calm word about Developing and Needs additional support

NAPLAN is not a pass or fail test. Developing means working towards expectations at the time of testing. Needs additional support identifies students who may be at risk of unsatisfactory progress, and ACARA notes that students at other levels may also need support in particular areas.

None of these is a verdict on your child. They are a prompt to talk with the teacher about next steps.

Exam tip

Ask the teacher whether the result matches what they see in class, and what they would suggest focusing on over the next term.

If the report does not arrive

If your child sat the tests and you did not receive a report, contact the school. ACARA says it does not have access to individual student reports and cannot arrange replacements. The school can request a replacement from its state or territory test administration authority.

NAPLAN is not an admission test

NAPLAN is not designed to be a school admission test. If you are looking for the NSW selective test, that is a different process, covered in plain words at Selective.

Frequently asked questions

When will my child's NAPLAN report arrive in 2027?
It is not yet published. In 2026 ACARA listed individual student reports from the start of Term 3, with timing set by each state or territory. We expect 2027 to follow a similar pattern, but that is an expectation, not a date.
Where does the report come from?
From your child's school. State and territory test administration authorities send individual student reports to schools, who give them to parents and carers. ACARA does not hold individual reports.
Does a Developing result mean my child has failed?
No. ACARA describes Developing as working towards expectations at the time of testing, and NAPLAN is not about passing or failing. Use the report to start a conversation with your child's teacher.
