What are volcanic hazards?Show answer
Explosive eruptions generate several distinct hazards. Pyroclastic flows are fast, scorching avalanches of gas, ash and rock that hug the ground and are almost always fatal. Ash falls collapse roofs, contaminate water and ground aircraft. Lahars are volcanic mudflows formed when ash mixes with water or melted snow and surge down valleys.
